- The cakes are always boring! I know that a cake is meant to be eaten so it doesn't need to look fancy anyway but I need to have some sort of pizazz somewhere on my cake. Plain, round/square, and white, just will NOT do it for me.
- A lot (and when I say a lot, I mean a LOT) of people tend to not eat the cake because most of the people are out dancing and they either don't care enough to want the cake or they just forget about it and normally by 10pm, the servers are clearing the tables and throwing away all of that cake. So naturally my fiancee, Travis, is not too crazy about getting a cake. He honestly thinks we should do without! Nope Nope Nope. I'm having a cake.
- While cakes decked out in fondant are nice, they are not necessarily tasty and besides, you pay all this money for fondant that typically doesn't even get eaten, or even used (at least not in our kitchen it doesn't. The chef just trims off the fondant so all there is left to eat is the cake, itself). But I have heard of several alternatives one being that there are bakeries out there that make cakes with buttercream but they look like fondant and two, you could always just have a fake fondant cake that is for looks then have a regular buttercream sheet cake that gets cut and served. Your guests won't know the difference!
If I had a lot of money to throw away, this would be pretty ideal. But if I love the idea so much, it could easily be downsized to something more reasonable.
This one I'm kind of "eh" about because like I've made it known, I HATE boring. But if my mother wanted to make her famous velvet red cake as a dessert option, it would fit well with a elaborate dessert table.
This idea was more for Travis because he's not thrilled about shelling out $200 for a cake that most of will go to waste. I like this idea because one, it's still shaped like a wedding cake and two, think of all the different combinations that could be decorated with and the flavors!
This cake fits the most in with the look and feel that I'm going for. The cake isn't a white white but a very pretty ivory decked out with some soft colored flowers.
This is more of a simple fondant styled cake which I'm also kind of "eh" about because the cakes look so expensive but at the same time kind of boring. I love the shade of purple though.
When it comes to cakes in general for my wedding though, because I plan on having a small wedding, I won't have to worry about having too many tiers or anything. It's always nice to kind of have an idea of what is out there, though. I do plan on having two flavors (two tiers) for mine. I really like the idea of a mint cake but I also love the idea of a peach flavor too. Obviously it doesn't sound like the most normal of combinations and it might not work together, I don't know. That's why it's always good to experiment with what will work and what won't.
